PCV M.2 NVMe Adapter

A part of a typical computer system is the thermal pad that is installed in the bottom of the laptop. A pad is a collection of parts that connect to a cooling unit through holes that were drilled into the base of the computer. These holes are for expansion, but they also keep the thermal pad from moving around as it is installed. The thermal pad that holds your laptop together is a major component of its performance and longevity.

A great deal of importance is given to this component of the cooling system because it works very closely with the actual hardware. The pad provides the thermal insulation against which heat is absorbed by the CPU. Without the pad, your laptop would be significantly less efficient and you would see an increase in processor temperature.

If you want to extend the life of your laptop, you will want to look into upgrading your cooling system. In this case, it is quite easy to choose between the IHS copper or a Silicone Thermal Pad for your upgrade. Keep in mind that both components have their own merits and demerits, so it's best to get both.

An IHS copper upgrade is done by simply adding a copper plate to the motherboard. Copper is expensive, but it is generally believed to be worth the investment. This copper plate is bonded directly to the motherboard, making it very difficult to replace.

Adding the copper plate is pretty simple, although you will need to remove a few screws to do so. Look over the entire interior of the laptop to find these screws, but make sure that you don't use a screwdriver that you're not familiar with. A small amount of electrical shock is probably not a good idea when you're trying to remove screws!

Once you've removed these screws, take a flathead screwdriver and gently lift the IHS copper plate off of the board. It will pop right off. You should be able to pull the copper plate off easily.

Take the new copper plate back to the laptop and attach it to the board in the same manner as you removed the old one. I always try to use an adhesive of some sort, but I sometimes feel like using a glue works just as well. It may take a little bit more time, but be patient. I suggest you finish the upgrade before you put any other hardware on the motherboard.

When you've finished installing the new thermal pad, you'll notice that the motherboard temperature has dropped. This is a good sign, but remember that not all laptops are created equal. You may have to repeat this process a few times to get the right temperature.

I highly recommend purchasing an IHS copper thermal pad. However, if you are going to use the Silicone Thermal Pad for the upgrade, make sure you make your purchase from a reputable company that carries a warranty. Only purchase pads from a reputable company and they should carry a guarantee on them.

If you're looking to use a m.2 PCIE NVMe adapter, then go right ahead. I have not done this myself, but the majority of manufactures that sell these adapters do carry a long-term warranty. There is a slight difference between these and the regular Thermal Pads, so check them out carefully. Remember, though, that you don't have to worry about compatibility since this adapter will handle everything for you.
