Looking For the Best External Hard Drive

The WD Blue is a good drive that's not very flashy. But it's good for its purpose: backing up your computer's files.

WD BLUE SN550

It's usefulness is debatable. Many PC owners want more out of their hard drives than just regular, run-of-the-mill backup. But as of late, companies like Amazon and others have been offering some compelling deals that can save you money on your storage needs.

If you do decide to invest in the Blue, you may want to spend a little more to get the best value. If you need a larger capacity, the WD Blue is priced at $70, or around half of what the most expensive Western Digital drive costs.

You can also choose a second drive instead of the Blue. This will keep your data in one place, instead of spread across two machines. But the WD Blue is the only drive on the market that offers this feature.

Other top hard drive brands, like Seagate, offer this feature, too. If you go with one of these brands, however, be sure to check the specs of the Drive you buy. Some brands are better than others.

If you don't mind spending the extra bit for the WD Blue, go for it. Otherwise, keep your other drives on one machine, and use the WD Blue to back up your personal files.

If you have an external drive, you might also want to try out the WD My Passport. It's an external hard drive, but it will make backups and synchronize on the same schedule as your internal drive.

It does have some advantages over the WD Blue. For one thing, it's a little bit faster. But it's much cheaper, too.

So if you need a fast external drive, the My Passport might be a good pick. But if you're the type of person who backs up their files often, the WD Blue is your choice.

Consider how much storage space you have on your internal drive. The Blue will save you an enormous amount of space. But if you don't have that much room, it's time to move to a higher capacity.

Or perhaps you need more storage space on your laptop. If so, the WD Blue is a great choice and will cost you less, too.

With so many choices out there, I don't know why anyone would ever leave out the WD Blue. It's a great device for backing up, backing up frequently, and saving time, too. Go ahead and pick up a Blue, and be happy.
